Playmobil Security Checkpoint

I would like to point out what fun the comments for the Playmobile Security Checkpoint set at Amazon.com are:

Thank you Playmobil for allowing me to teach my 5-year old the importance of recognizing what a failing bureaucracy in a ever growing fascist state looks like.

There’s also this little functionality critique:

I was a little disappointed when I first bought this item, because the functionality is limited. My 5 year old son pointed out that the passenger’s shoes cannot be removed. Then, we placed a deadly fingernail file underneath the passenger’s scarf, and neither the detector doorway nor the security wand picked it up.

And some timely political statements:

Now that John McCain has decided that Water Boarding (that terrific technique invented by the Spanish Inquisition) is OK in some circumstances it should be added as an option to this Toy.

And:

While I’m sure your child will love this do we really want to reveal our security secrets to the terrorists? I bet al-Qaeda is training the next generation with this very product. I am saddened to learn that Playmobile hates America.

An entertaining read.

Some Awesomeness

A while ago, Leo Lingas painted this great picture of Klingons crossing the Delaware.

Yesterday, this picture made Boingboing (which I’m sure will have a huge affect on his page views).  Shortly thereafter, Wil Wheaton also linked to it, with a rave about its awesomeness.

So… congratulations to Leo.

Ham-Lego

I’ve shown this to some people, but not with everyone. This was shared with the Cast during rehearsals for Hamlet and its just to funny not to share.

I present to you: Ham-Lego. That’s right. Hamlet (abridged)…with LEGO.

The Drive Thru Song

OK. I’m clearly in a linky mood today.

These kids got bored, so they wrote a song and performed it at the Drive Thru at McDonalds. And that’s how they placed their order.

See the brilliance here.

Pure Comic Genius: Spam

The Brothers McLeod have come up with a stroke of genius. They take the text from spam messages and dramatise them in an animated cartoon called: Spamland. The first can be found here, and is highly amusing.

Says BoingBoing:

The marvelous Brothers McLeod are creating a series of cartoons called Spamland. The dialogue for the cartoons comes from the semi-sensical text found in the filter-busting portion of spam messages.

If you’ve ever received one of these nonsensical messages, you’ll really get a kick out of it.

Twas the Night before SoaP and all through the house

…not a creature was stirring, espcially the mice.
(snakes eat mice you know).

Happy Snakes on a Plane Eve!

As the opening of the movie approaches (its opening tomorrow, though there are screenings tonight), I have heard some trepedation on the internet.

“What if the movie sucks” I’ve heard some say. Or the even worse “what if Its not as good as I’ve hoped”.

Let’s say the movie sucks. So what? Can you think of another movie that has given us so much entertainment before even being released? Snakes on a Plane has given us photoshop contests, t-shirts, a new expletive, months of running gags, excuses to throw the word “motherfucker” into random sentences.

There have been home-made trailers on Youtube, contests to see what lines people most want Samuel L Jackson to say in the movie (the winner was “I’m tired of these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane” which they went back and inserted into the movie).

How many movies have given this much entertainment even before their release date?

When it comes down to it, I’ve had so much fun with this movie, that even if it completely sucks when I see it tomorrow, I’ll feel that I’ve gotten my money’s worth. Sure, I want it to be a roller coaster ride of fun, but it might disappoint. And then, as the credits roll, I’ll say “well, at least we’ve had some kicks the last few months”.

The movie, I’m certain, will deliver exactly what it promises: snakes. plane. snakes on plane. (sounds a little like a Dr. Suess title). If the movie is cheesey, that’s exactly what I’m expecting. Perhaps it will be both cheesey and bad. But again: i’ve had a lot of fun with the title over the last year…and for that, Sam and the film makers deserve my admission fee.

Tomorrow is Snakes on a Plane day. And I for one, am looking forward to it.

Not a real update

If you haven’t heard of OK Go, you really should. Here’s a new video they did.

There are a few of reasons why this is the best music video EVAH:

1) That’s actually the band dancing
2) They did that in one take.
3) It has TREADMILLS!

While we are on the topic of videos, if you haven’t seen this, you really should:
Darth Vader Being A Smartass
…basically, its footage re-edited to make it look like darth vader is completely messing with the poor commander.

And that’s it for now. I’ll do a real update when I’m not battling a crappy summer cold.

…believe a man can fly

There is a new trailer posted for Superman Returns.

You can see it here.

I don’t have a lot to say about it.

Except: holy fuck!

Note: my reaction in no way diminishes the fact that Snakes on a Plane (August 18) will be the most important movie of the summer. Or rather…the most important movie of the year. Or really…Our Generation.

HRwiki

On the internets, there are sites become things that you cannot live without.  There are sites that you rely on for news, childish humour, and for killing time.  There are also many other sites that do similar things.  And then there are sites that are a way of life.

Like Homestarrunner.com.

Ok.  So its not really a way of life.  Well, it could be, if the Strong Bad E-mails were updated more frequently.

But, now there’s a companion site to Homestarrunner.com: The Homestar Runner Wiki.  Yeah, that’s right.  A wiki for Homestar Runner.  Did you miss a reference in one of the cartoons?  Its explained here.

Naturally, there are probably some people who don’t have a clue what I’m going on about.  If you’re one of them, I recommend you go here and learn.

gawd.  I’m such a geek.

Log Driver’s Waltz

This is one of my favourite old National Film Board of Canada shorts.  I haven’t seen it in years, but thankfully, with the proliferation of video services on the web, its now available on YouTube.

If you’ve never had the pleasure of seeing it, I highly recommend it.
