Nice try

Former Ontario Premier Mike Harris has apparently co-authored a report (through the Fraser Institute) called “Is Toronto in Decline? Worrying Trends from the Census”.

Mike Harris?!  The guy who hated Toronto so much during his time as premier that he did everything in his power to hobble the city with debt?  This guy gets to author a report that gets media time and treated like an authoritative statement on the topic?

Wow.

Surprises and Nuit Blanche

This morning, my legs are screaming with pain, and coffee is a necessity.  Last night, I was up later than I have been in ages, and walked more than I should have in shoes that are not made for walking long distances.  I think, however, that if I had not made this unfortunate shoe choice, I would still be in pain this morning…but that pain would be slightly muted.

On to the description of the night!

First off, Richard Beaune’s cunning wife Kimberly had planned a surprise party for Richard, who is turning 40 today.  Jenngo and I planned to go, and we gave ourselves enough time to get where we needed to be, with about 10 minutes to spare.

Unfortunately, Richard, being they type who is always early, was on the stairs ahead of us.  As Jenn and I realized this, we froze, and hoped that Dick wouldn’t see us.  Naturally, the sight of two people freezing with a “dear in the headlights” look on their faces is guaranteed to draw attention.  Which it did.  Fortunately, Richard had no idea about the party (and why would he, his “official” party was Sunday), so our being there and acting oddly didn’t alert him to the surprise to come.
